Planning Alerts collects planning application data directly from each council's planning portal using automated scrapers, updated daily. Where councils publish data via the official PlanningData.gov.uk API, we use that feed. For all other councils, we scrape the portal directly using polite crawl delays and council-specific adapters.
Idox Public Access — the most common portal system, used by ~55 councils. Northgate — ASP.NET-based portals. DEF Software — used by Surrey, Wealden, Somerset, and others. Gov API — direct feed from PlanningData.gov.uk. PlanIt — fallback data source covering councils not yet directly scraped.
The "last scraped" time shows when we most recently successfully fetched new data from that council's portal. Tier 1 councils (top 50 by population) are scraped daily. Tier 2 councils are scraped daily. Tier 3 councils are scraped every 3 days. A green status dot means the most recent scrape succeeded; red means an error occurred.
Planning Alerts combines Planning Data records with information from council portals and other sources. Planning Data-sourced records are used under Open Government Licence v3.0 attribution. Other sources may have separate terms and are not enabled for commercial API, export, paid-alert or professional workflows until their rights are verified. Portal technology and public availability do not themselves establish a commercial reuse licence. Planning Alerts links to the originating source and applies source-specific rights controls.
